Jeju, South Korea
8/16 -
[PLACE]
So I live here now.. I am a new to Asia, Korea and small islands. (No, the UK isn't this small.) Jeju is about the size of Guernsey (1,849 km²) but only around 160,000 people. With the busiest flight path in the world (over 90 flights daily from Seoul to Jeju) I am sure that it feels like a lot more! It is such a change from the boom of Berlin and quite an adjustment. LUCKILY the weather is delicious, as are the beaches and the views, so that helps a bunch.

The Spirited Garden, Jeju [PLACE]
|
At an admitted lost end 'The Spirited Garden' became a viable option. It was something that could be 'Jeju good' to visit and perhaps be a funny anecdote for the future. But we were pleasantly surprised to be enthralled. Seong Beomyeong, the director, has dedicated morning, noon and night every day since 1963 to the transformation of a waste and swamp land into this tranquil haven based on the ancient Chinese and Korean art of Bunjae (Bonsai). I loved the spiritual and philosophical descriptions associated with the way that one must appreciate the trees and the garden. We had the pleasure of sitting down and sharing Jeju citrus tea with this inspirational man. I can't wait to go back and lose myself sketching there.

I had the absolute pleasure of being sent on a school trip to our sister school in Toronto. The city has so much to offer. I can't wait to explore Canada more in the future.
WEEK 1- Explore Toronto
We set off to Seoul from school on Monday, then flew to Toronto the next day. Between naps and films, it wasn't a bad day. When we landed we went straight to the school and met the buddies there.
Wednesday was spent
WEEK 2- Algonquin Park
This week was spent outdoors, disconnecting from technology and reconnecting with nature. It was a blast. I loved the chance to try out all of the outdoor activities in this beautiful part of the world.
WEEK 3- Individuals and societies and Arts IDU.
I was so proud of the unit that we created. It was elegant and clear to see how they created a response in another media and asking the students if they wanted to respond in a variety of ways was perfect as it meant that they had to make decisions about their work and WHY they had done what they did.

Sri Lanka was amazing!
|
I was prepared for a new place, but not the heat or the beauty! Sri Lanka has so much to offer. It is so varied in landscape, one minute you are at a pristine beach the next the rickety train trundles along lush green tea fields. You are supported constantly to indulge in your culinary desires.
If you want more information on what we did, where we went, or what we would recommend, please just let me know! |

YOGA, beaches, sun, sand and sea. Take me back! My amazing friend Laura, a Canadian Yoga teacher is really getting me into Yoga. I am new, lack balance and find it refreshingly difficult.. but arial yoga was just awesome fun! We also took the opportunity to explore snorkelling, another challenge as I have a fear of water but I love it!!
It was my first time visiting temples (cant wait to see more) and I was really in awe of the patterns, shapes and deity that were used. Opportunities and ideas have been opened in my creativity. |

Hong Kong
9/16 (4 days)
[PLACE]
|
Possibly the least cultural trip that I have ever been on, but I really enjoyed it. After being on the island where being understood, shopping, and accessing food that I am aware of, for a price I can justify is difficult, it was just what I needed! I have never been in such a built up area. A lot of the London that I visit (although other areas are built up) is still 5 stories high max, whereas Hong Kong boasts 7,000+ sky scrapers. I was mesmerized by the lights and how beautiful it was at night, compared to daytime. I loved the viewpoints I was able to capture.
There were beaches, that were really close, but we didn't visit them. Jeju has enough. |
